PLAYING YOUR VIDEO DOWNLOADS

All our videos are in Windows .wmv format. You can argue the pros and cons of video formats forever, but the plain practical fact is that .wmv is the established standard.

To get the best results, make sure you have the most recent version of Windows Media Player that your computer can handle. Close down all other running applications, and as many of those little things at the right-hand end of your Windows Taskbar as possible. Keep a bit of disc space free for temporary files.

With very large files, you may find that they don’t play too well first time but go much more smoothly the second time through, because Media Player has sorted out all its behind-the-scenes stuff. And then there’s the oldest Windows trick of all - not as effective as it was a few versions ago but still worth remembering - just reboot the computer and give it a clean start!

If you don’t like Windows Media Player, there are plenty of other players around that will handle .wmv files, and some of the better ones are freeware. Ten minutes with a good search engine will find plenty to investigate...

If you still can’t get decent video performance on your computer, the most cost-effective improvement is probably to buy it some more RAM. But eventually we all have to face the fact that technology moves on, demands on hardware and software and memory and disc space get bigger and bigger, and there comes a point where an ageing computer just can’t cut it any longer.

Unfortunately, there’s only one solution to that. But in the meantime, you might try the less demanding PREMIUM videos. The standards are still good, and better than many sites will give you!
