CV_001 - Jade: red catsuit escape

No.1 comes from the first ever Convolvulus shoot. We intended this set for a tutorial project we were planning - I had tied her arms and taken a lot of stills of the tie as it developed. Then she decided she was going to get out of it by herself...
I took a lot more stills and only at the very end - at least half an hour later - changed over to the video camera. She had already untied all the knots (with the aid of a teaspoon from the kitchen) but friction was still holding her wrist ropes firmly in position. Her expression and body language and emotion at the end sum up most of what Convolvulus is about.

I suppose I should add a Health and Safety at Work note - the table knife that features in this video was the bluntest one in the drawer, a Risk Assessment was made, and its use was closely supervised.

CV_002 - Ariel Anderssen chair-tied & butterfly-gagged

This was the first set we did in my first shoot with Ariel (which definitely won’t be the last!) Usually the first one is a bit of a gentle warm-up, but not this time. She’s a real enthusiast so I started with quite a tough chair tie. And before we got into that we’d been talking about gags and she said she liked real ones that actually work. So I said “Ever tried a butterfly gag?” and she said she’d never heard of one.

I let her try it before we did the tie, and she was happy and said “OK, that’s what a real gag ought to be like!”

That was after I took it out, of course. She didn’t say a thing I could understand while it was in...

Explanation: it’s a rubber inflatable gag held in place by a leather mouth-cover. The inflatable part that goes in your mouth is in three sections - one goes above your tongue, the others go between teeth and cheeks on either side. When it’s inflated it will not come out and anything more than a grunt is just not possible. It isn’t something for beginners, but Ariel took it like the pro that she is.

CV_003 - Aurora: Japanese hogtie on bed

This tie shows the Japanese - influenced side of Convolvulus ropework. The rope is the first-class hemp from Marrow in the Netherlands, and the asymmetric treatment of Aurora’s legs - one frogtied, the other hogtied - is typical of the Japanese approach. It also allows her to do a lot of interesting rolling around without having enough freedom of movement to get off the bed safely, for instance.
And after she finished wriggling, not a single rope had loosened even a bit!

While shooting this video I kept wondering if I should have added a gag. But I think I was right not to. I wanted the feeling that she’s there because she wants to be, and that she knows perfectly well that a white knight is going to be along soon to “rescue” her...

CV_004 - Lucy Zara chair-tied and suspended

Lucy is a very experienced and well-known bondage model who has been in the Finals of the Signy Awards for the last couple of years. So when I asked her how she felt about doing a suspension, I wasn’t expecting her reply: “Nobody’s ever asked me before!”

Chair suspension is a great way to introduce somebody to suspensions, because the chair takes all the strain.

So this is a double first. Lucy Zara’s first appearance on Convolvulus, and her first-ever time tied up and off the ground.

When I told the story to the studio owner afterwards, she said “Probably nobody’s ever dared ask her before!”
